Crochet Beanie Pattern - The Aniak Beanie

The colder days are here and it is definitely beanie season! The Aniak Beanie will give you some chic style and a bit of much-needed warmth to carry you through the winter blues; it would also make a fab last minute gift!

The Aniak Beanie is really a simple and lovely pattern to work up. Once you get the hang of it, it’ll be one of those projects you get to mindlessly work on as you watch your favorite show— aka the best kinds of projects. :)

The Aniak Beanie

Materials:

-Approximately 262 yards of worsted weight (4) yarn, I used Alize Lanagold Classic in color Light Brown Melange
-size i (5.5 mm) hook, or size needed to obtain gauge"
-sewing pins (optional)
-yarn needle
-pom, if desired! I used some scrap yarn I had and my Clover Pom-Pom Maker, or add a fur pom pom

Gauge:

5x10 shells of basic pattern repeat = 4 inches (10 cm)

Abbreviations:

ch: chain

sl st: slip stitch

sc: single crochet

sctbl: single crochet through back loop

hdc: half double crochet

dc: double crochet

Shell = [1 sc, 1 hdc, 1 dc]

st(s): stitch(es)

MC: Main color

Notes:

-this beanie is worked in spiral rounds, just keep crocheting in the round without joining!

-this pattern is written for a woman’s head— but is a touch "oversized” and slouchy (One size-9.5 inches (24cm) long exl. pom pom, approx. 20 inches (51 cm) circumference, with stretch)

Pattern:

BAND

With 5.50mm (U.S I/9) hook and MC ch 9.

Row 1: Starting from 2nd ch from hook, work 1 sc in each ch across. (8 sts)

Row 2: Turn, ch1. Sctbl in each st across. (8 sts)

Repeat Row 2 until ribbing measures 18-19 inches (45 cm)

Fold band in middle and join the front and back with a sl st in each st. Do NOT fasten off.

BODY

Round 1: Sc in each st around, sl st to close the round (around 57 sc) Make sure you end up with a multiple of 3.

Round 2: shell in first sc, skip next 2 sc, * shell in next sc, skip next 2 sc, rep from * to end, continue working in the round.

Round 3: shell in first sc, *skip next 2 sts, shell in next sc, rep from * to end.

Repeat Round 3 until beanie measures 9.5 inches (24cm) Fasten off.

ASSEMBLY

To close up the top of your hat, grab your yarn needle and the tail end of yarn. Weave your needle in and out of the stitches of the last round, doing a running stitch. Once all the way around, pull the tail end of yarn tightly to gather the top of the hat. Tie a couple of knots to secure, then add your pom if desired and weave in your ends.
